Driving home via the city at the end of a busy Friday.
It was the middle of a horrendous, heatwave and I’d drunk at least 3 litres of water
I was running late for school pick up - and fixated on getting to my favourite fruit and veg
As I took the fast track up the freeway, my intuition and I started a conversation.
Intuition |
Toilet stop advised at the first exit. |
Me |
No, I can wait til I get to school, I haven’t got time to stop. |
I raced past the 1st exit at 110 kph, abdominal pressure increasing slightly, but quite |
confident in my decision. |
Intuition |
Lets listen to the news, turn on the radio. |
Me |
No, I’d rather have silence. |
A few minutes later . . . |
Intuition |
Turn off at the next exit, take the scenic route home, via the toilet, there’ll still be |
time for the Fruit and Veg shop. |
Me |
Yes maybe . . . . . . no I’ll be ok, don’t want to waste time. |
Still undecided, I slow down, but logic wins - cruise past 2nd exit at 100 kph. |
Around the bend, I have to stand on the brakes – all lanes of traffic are jammed and crawling |
at snail pace. So slow that the speed doesn’t even register on my speedo! |
Now, my body is agreeing with my intuition, “toilet stop urgently required”.
I turn up the radio volume, just in time to hear the traffic updates. Sure enough the freeway |
was blocked between me and my home exit and wouldn’t be cleared for at least an hour!
At normal speed the next exit is 5 minutes away, but at snail speed it takes 25 minutes.
Intuition |
Tried to warn you. |
Me |
Thank you, now I’m listening. |
25 minutes later, I make a hasty exit from the freeway, obediently following my intuition to a |
very handy ‘rest room’. |
After a most undignified ‘rest stop’ I proceed along the scenic route to school. |
Outcome: I was late for school pick-up and too late for the fruit and veg shop. However, |
the after school care manager kindly waved the late fee – she thought I’d suffered enough. |
Had I listened to my intuition, I would have made it to the school and the shop in comfort |
and before closing time! |
My intuition has always been strong, but I hadn’t realised I was making it work so hard. |
I had a good laugh at myself and with renewed respect and gratitude for my intuition - I |
listened when it suggested I share the story with you.
| |

-
Your intuition is always working.
-
There is no need to wait for a big drama to put it to the test.
-
Listen to it right now and ask for guidance on everyday decisions.
-
Write down what your intuition suggests, it will soon show you how well it works.
-
The more you listen and respond to your intuition, the stronger it becomes.
-
And, the more confident you become.
-
Trusting your intuition will give you many opportunities for empowerment.
